Robotics

At The Girls’ Middle School, robotics is a gateway to empowerment. Through the GMS VEX Robotics program, students explore engineering, teamwork, and leadership in a dynamic, student-driven environment that fosters innovation and resilience. Students design, build, and program robots while practicing collaboration, leadership, and joyful problem-solving.

GMS competes in VEX V5RC, a global robotics league with a new challenge each year. Our teams develop strategy, iterate on designs, and put their skills to the test in scrimmages and tournaments.

All GMS sixth graders gain foundational robotics experience through the Computer Science curriculum. Seventh and eighth graders can join the Robotics club to take it further — designing, building, and coding competitive robots for VEX V5RC challenges. Students learn through experimentation, problem-solving, and the support of faculty and parent mentors.

Our History & Vision

The GMS Robotics program was founded to create an equitable space for girls in robotics—a field where women remain underrepresented. Our vision is to build a lasting network of young women who learn, play, and mentor one another, extending the impact of GMS beyond middle school.

  • Students and alums serve as role models and mentors for younger teammates.

  • Teams share discoveries to accelerate learning and growth.

  • Alum parents and community experts enrich the program with mentorship, lab visits, and speaker opportunities.

By fostering confidence, leadership, and technical skill, GMS Robotics helps level the playing field for the next generation of women engineers.

Timeline
